About Forensics at Florida College

The Florida College Forensics team competes in state, national, and international competitions in two areas:

  • Individual Events. Prose reading, poetry performance, persuasive and informative speaking, extemporaneous speaking, and impromptu speaking.
  • Team Parliamentary Debate. Loosely modeled after the British House of Commons debate, where each team has two members, a resolution is given, and both sides argue their points.

Students may compete in several different events and may receive individual awards or may earn points to help their team win team awards. Florida College is consistently competitive for the small school state and national championship and often accumulate enough points for large school awards. More importantly, students on the forensics team develop close bonds, compete on a high level, and travel around the country and the world.

“Being on the forensics team was a big commitment. But, I doubt many members would ever trade the experiences they have. We worked hard. We were competitive with other schools, ourselves, and each other. Yet, we never lost the sense that we were brothers and sisters in Christ.”
